Where to get help
Your GP or family doctor can refer you to a therapist. You can also ask your local Health Services or Mental Health Services for referrals to therapists. The Yellow Pages are also a good source of information in your search for therapists. Look under Doctors - Psychiatrists, or under Psychologists. If there is a VA hospital near you, they should also be able to give you the names of PTSD therapists in your area. The No Stigma website, www.nostigma.org, has a page with toll free numbers for various professional associations where you can ask referals to therapists in your area.

Ask family and friends who are in therapy about their therapist. Many therapists work on a sliding scale basis, with their fees dependent upon your income.

If you are a student, contact your school's nurse or counsellor. If you are in college or university, contact the counsellor at the school's Health Centre. Many universities have a rape counselling program in place.

If you have been sexually abused, you can call RAINN (Rape Incest National Network) 1-800-656-HOPE (1-800-656-4673), www.rainn.org . Counsellors are there 24/7. They can also help you locate a therapist, crisis or trauma centre or support group near you. The calls are anonymous. When you call, you call will be patched through to the crisis centre nearest to you. You call will not be able to be traced. The RAINN website also has links to international centres.

Stop Abuse for All is a site that has resources for straight men and GBLT's who are survivors of domestic violence or sexual abuse.
