Where to get help Ask family and friends who are in therapy about their therapist. Many therapists work on a sliding scale basis, with their fees dependent upon your income. If you are a student, contact your school's nurse or counsellor. If you are in college or university, contact the counsellor at the school's Health Centre. Many universities have a rape counselling program in place. If you have been sexually abused, you can call RAINN (Rape Incest National Network) 1-800-656-HOPE (1-800-656-4673), www.rainn.org . Counsellors are there 24/7. They can also help you locate a therapist, crisis or trauma centre or support group near you. The calls are anonymous. When you call, you call will be patched through to the crisis centre nearest to you. You call will not be able to be traced. The RAINN website also has links to international centres. Stop Abuse for All is a site that has resources for straight men and GBLT's who are survivors of domestic violence or sexual abuse. Those who have been abused as children can call Childhelp USA, National Child Abuse Hotline, 1-800-4-A-CHILD® (1-800-422-4453), www.childhelpusa.org Those who are in a domestic abuse situation can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or 1-800-787-3224 (TTY), http://www.ndvh.org/ For those who have family who are war veterans and think that that family member might have PTSD can contact the local VA office. |
